Dartford Crossing penalty charges pass 350,000 mark since toll booths were scrapped

The number of fixed-penalty charge notices issued by Highways England for non-payments of the Dartford Crossing toll have passed the 350,000 mark in just over four months since the toll booths were scrapped. The toll booths were phased out at the end of November last year, meaning motorists can only pay the crossing fee via a pre-paid Dart Charge account online, or if they pay online, by phone, by text or at a Payzone shop after using the crossing. The Dart Charge system uses automatic number plate recognition technology to track vehicle number plates and then administer a charge, or fine, to that vehicle.
