    Mayor's Transport Strategy not motorcycle-friendly
    16 March 2018

The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) has accused the London Mayor of putting motorcyclists and scooter riders’ lives at risk by failing to recognise them properly in his new 2018 transport strategy for London. Their objection centres on the introduction of reduced lane widths to accommodate cycle lanes, which has made filtering on two-wheeled vehicles more dangerous for riders; but also that the Mayor has decided to give motorcycles and scooters the same congestion charges given to cars, taxis and construction traffic.

    Housing Infrastructure Fund
    7 February 2018

The development industry is urging that the Government’s £2.3Bn Housing Infrastructure Fund must be capitalised on without delay to bolster economic growth.

Last week the Government confirmed its first allocation from the fund – amounting to £866M – which will be shared among 133 council-led housing projects in England. Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond commented that these capital grants will be spent on roads, footpaths and other supporting infrastructure needed ahead of new housing developments or to make them viable.

The initial £866M allocation is expected to help support up to 200,000 new homes. Government plans to deliver 300,000 homes a year by the mid-2020s. Importantly, all funds must be allocated to infrastructure projects by 2021 so it is critical for local authorities to capitalise on this opportunity without delay.

On the transport matters the general tone was "This isn't a new housing estate this is a historic setting so design 'guidance' should be treated as such and  a common sense approach should be taken'. Excellent decision.
