Motorcycles in bus lanes (consultation)
In January 2024, the DfT published TAL 1/24 'Motorcycles in bus lanes' reminding local councils of their powers, and advising that highway authorities should allow motorcyclists to use bus lanes wherever appropriate.
However, whereas motorcyclists have been allowed to use bus lanes for some time, access is neither consistent or universal across local authority boundaries. Yesterday, the DfT launched an Open Consultation on whether access to bus lanes should be the default position.
