New Sainsbury's Local opens in St Marychurch

Entran were appointed to provide transport planning and highway design for the redevelopment of the former General Accident Insurance building in St. Marychurch, Torquay. The result is a brand new 4,000 sq.ft. Sainsbury's Local food store which began trading in early September. Sainsbury's are the anchor tenant of this exciting new mixed use scheme, including cafes and residential units. This is a valuable new retail provision that activates the previously dormant site, improved public transport provision and provides a new area of public realm.

Site trials at TRL

The trials were commissioned by TfL and involved dozens of cyclists and pedestrians being filmed going through pre-determined manoeuvres to assess their reactions and interactions. The irony is that this 'new' cycle bypass was very similar to one proposed by Entran in 2010 as part of a proposed development in Tower Hamlets, and which was rejected by TfL!
