Happy World Bicycle Day !

Today (3/6/2021) is the United Nations World Bicycle Day. Regular exercise such as walking, cycling, or doing sports has health, social and economic benefits, and investment in policy actions to increase physical activity can contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The bicycle is also a simple, affordable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation.

Happy World Bicycle Day !

New homes in Aston

After lengthy negotiations, an unsuccessful appeal, and significant opposition from the local Parish Council, yesterday East Herts Council granted planning permission for two schemes in Aston, Herts for the retention of a Grade 2 listed pub, improvements to the parking and road frontage and the provision of new homes to the rear.

Progress for shared transport in Wales

The Wales Transport Strategy 2021 sees a real move forwards compared to the draft version, particularly in terms of shared transport. The newly published document recognises shared transport's role in Wales' future including "A commitment to move Wales away from individual vehicle ownership towards shared solutions including car sharing, car clubs, bike sharing and mobility as a service". A new Manual for Streets

CIHT has confirmed that they are developing a new Manual for Streets, bringing together and updating the original MfS as well as MfS2. The new document is expected to be published in January 2022. The original MfS was a step forward in integrating street design and housing layouts but has now been joined by more recent publications such as the MHCLG National Design Guide, so it will be interesting to see how much further the new MfS takes the collaboration between highway design, urban design and architecture.  Manual for Streets | CIHT
